What’s Happening?

Friends, This is a Wild Ride

A voice of one crying out: Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness; make a straight highway for our God in the desert.
Isaiah 40:3 HCSB

After I posted about the Sudan story in February, my friend Jennie Montgomery at WJBF contacted me to see if she could interview us regarding the story and screenwriting of “Grounded”. We agreed immediately. Unfortunately, Meagan could not be with us as she is in Cartersville and close to giving birth and is not traveling much at all.

This past week, Jennie and I had the opportunity to sit down and talk about a few of the details of what happened and what the status of the film is now. All the feelings that I had back in 2023 came rushing back into the current moment. Ecstasy and agony. Desperation and victory. You get it. I was not expecting that wave of emotion.

So, I hope you catch the segment on WJBF Channel 6 coming up on Tuesday, May 6 at 12:30pm. If not, I will post the link for you to watch it here.

I hope that we will have even *more good news soon from a film festival in Orlando, Florida where our screenwriter, Cheri Daly and a producer that has linked arms with us, Tara Massey, is pitching our idea to other producers tomorrow for the first time together!

Thank you so much for your continued support and excitement! Please pray for favor and for God to prepare the way, even though I feel very confident that He already has.

“A voice of one crying out: Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness; make a straight highway for our God in the desert.” Isaiah 40:3

This was the same scripture that I referred to during the Sudan escape.

He prepared a way to go,
a way to escape,
a way to tell the story,
and we believe He will make a way for this story to be heard on a larger scale.

To God be the glory!

Grounded

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Isaiah 43:19 NIV

Back in 2023, my daughter Meagan went on a missions trip with a team to Sudan. Soon after arriving, a war broke out in the area where the team was staying. The events that followed were quite harrowing. They were ordered to evacuate the church they were speaking in. The airport they had just landed in was bombed. The hotel they had checked into was raided. The team consisted of three white Americans and one Lebanese. All Christians.
Not the greatest odds.
But, God.

While they were still in Sudan in the middle of the chaos, we talked about writing a book and pitching a movie idea. After the team was safely home, we actively started to pursue that goal once everyone had time to recover from the traumatic events that occurred.

We knew the one person who could help us do this, and she was our local friend and award-winning screenwriter, Cheri Daly. She’s done an excellent job in compiling, writing, and pitching our ideas. Almost 2 years later, here we are and finally getting some great response!

“Grounded” has made it through the first round of the International Christian Film and Music festival as an official selection!

Next is to become an official nominee for the award. Yay!

Thank you for the many prayers that went up in 2023 for the safety and return of the entire team who went to Sudan. Now, we can pray for the success of this film! To God be the glory.

Thank you for your support.

About Paula

I grew up in a Christian home as a preacher’s kid in Texas. I have lived in 21 homes in 20 different cities, attended 9 schools before high school, attended three colleges, and regularly attended 18 churches in my life. The stories between these pages are from just a few of those countless, colorful experiences. I’ve always wanted to share personal stories in writing and acknowledge a deeper purpose, and now is the time!

I’m not perfect and won’t be on this earth. But just like you, I am a work in progress. I think for too long we have put that perfect expectation on ourselves and allowed it to keep us from doing and being everything we want to do and be. I pray we can let go of that thinking and embrace God with what we have. His mercies are new every morning!

I welcome you to jump into the journey with me and experience for yourself what God can do in your life. My hope is that you find some common ground here coupled with some spiritual truth to encourage you in whatever season you are in. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to begin a regular time of devotion with God. You have a very good tool in your hands to do just that.
